2002
Susan Ward
A Co-Founder of the Cincinnati Bop Club, Susan prepared the clubs’ bylaws and has been the Secretary and Newsletter Editor. Her creativity has allowed her to write numerous articles on the history of dance and its’ music, some of which have been published in the SOS Carefree Times and Jitterbug Magazine.
She created the Club flyers and signs and taught many dance lessons for many years. Instrumental in the promotion, production of the ABA Convention event “Move Across The River” where she maintained the MATR database, handled registration and organized 50 to 60 volunteers for the event.
Tommy and Emily Roberts
Dancing since 1950, Tommy has taught dance classes, judged competitions and held many board positions over the years in the U.S. and overseas including the Little Rock Bop Club where he has held the positions of Vice President, Membership Director, and Newsletter Editor.
Introduced to partner dancing in 1991, Emily joined the LRBC in 1992. She co-founded the Ballroom, Latin, and Swing Dance Association, promoted dance events and built a bridge between both dance communities. Emily has been LRBC’s Web Master and Membership Director. Together they have taught at LRBC and are a 2 for 1 team dedicated to promoting their love of dancing.
Gloria Medel
Gloria has been a member of the CWCJC for many years, and the Dance Director for at least 7 of those years. She has fine-tuned the dance lesson program, organized and taught dance classes, created workshops, trained other dance instructors, and donated her time to local charitable events.
She was very active in the production of the clubs’ weekend event “Sweet Home Chicago”. Gloria has also taught workshops and done exhibitions at several out of town events. She has been the Club Representative to the ABA and held the position of Secretary for the ABA. She created an ABA Brochure and an annual dance calendar.
2003
Tony and Myra Griemel
Tony and Myra have been members of the Jefferson County Swing Dance Club since 1985. They were elected to the Board of Directors soon after and continuously served in a variety of positions. Tony has been President of the club. And both were President of the Midwest Swing Dance Federation.
They were instrumental in putting together the clubs’ dance instruction program and taught at both the Club and a local college giving any proceeds to the Club. They have taught at all of their sister clubs performed exhibitions and participated in many skits for locally and nationally. They both have been active in the Midwest Swing Dance Federation, ABA, and the ABA cruise, “Dancing on the High Seas”.
Bill White
Bill began dancing in 1988. Soon after he joined the West County Swing Dance Club, joined its Board, set up a membership drive that helped grow the membership. He was the Newsletter Editor and set up systems that helped support the Clubs’ financials and stability. Bill served as Treasurer and President for several years.
He served as Treasurer of West County’s Annual ABA Convention ”Rollin On The River” and for the Midwest Swing Dance Federation. He was also the Clubs’ Representative to the ABA for several years. Bill’s dedication to the St. Louis Swing Dance community has been dedicated, constant and faithful.
2004
Jim and Virginia Stanton
Jim and Virginia joined the Little Rock Bop Club in 1996 and became very active from the beginning. They helped organize the first “Bop On The Lake” and helped in registration, dance floor, hospitality, decorating, entertainment and clean up every year.
They have served as Club officers, dance instructors and goodwill ambassadors for Swing Dance resulting in many new dancers. They have instructed and done exhibitions at many out-of-town dance events. Their many years of dedication and hard work turned to service to others, and demonstrated a willingness to go anywhere and do anything for the dance community
Wayne Maxey
Wayne has been a very active member of the Memphis Bop Club since its inception in 1987. He has served tirelessly on the Clubs dance committee as well as many other committees. He has been President of the Memphis Bop Club as well as other positions on the Board. He has taken a very active role in the coordination of the ABA Hall of Fame for many years.
He loves the Memphis Bop Club and utilizes every opportunity to promote the 50’s/60’s style of dance known as “Bop” wherever he goes.
Sherry Martin
Sherry Has been dancing since 1984 and a member of the South Side Imperial Dance Club since 1987. She’s an outstanding dancer and taught dance in the St. Louis area for many years. She was the Director of dance lessons for SSIDC for many years.
Sherry has demonstrated, taught and preserved the St. Louis dance style known as the Imperial all over the country. She has competed and judged at many events.
She placed first at the U.S. Open twice, once in 1988 and again in 1998. Sherry is also a member of the U.S. Swing Dance Hall of Fame, the Dallas Dance Hall of Fame, and the Midwest Swing Dance Federation Hall of Fame.
